Should Welfare Recipients Have To Pass Drug Tests In Order To Receive Benefits?

I don't generally post emails I've received, but this one warrants some attention. I am a proponent for government help when the people who receive the help DESERVE the help. Fraudulent claims cost everybody money and unfortunately not enough people monitor the situation to prevent the people who least deserve help from getting it.

When I received this email from my mother, I couldn't help but think about all the people in dire need of assistance who live next door to people who lied their way through the system to get undeserved money from the government, whether it was welfare or disability.

People who stay home in a drug-induced stupor collecting money when they are perfectly capable of working are contributing to this country's deficit.

Yes, the money these people receive from the government is more than they would receive at a job that pays minimum wage, especially when you consider the cost of child care, but unless we help these people get a college education that further helps them succeed in making enough money to pay for just the necessities, we will always have people who continue to receive aid.

But aiding people whose only goal is to sell and/or take drugs benefits no one, not even them. So when I read the following email, I couldn't help but agree. And I wanted to pass it along. Here is the email:

Interesting proposition!
Like most folks in this country,
I had a job.  I worked, they paid me.
I paid my taxes & the government distributed my taxes
as it saw fit.

In order to get that paycheck, in my case, I was required to
pass a random urine test (with which I had no problem).

What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people
who don't have to pass a urine test.
So, here is my question:
Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because
I had to pass one to earn it for them?

Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet.
I did, on the other hand, have a problem with helping someone sitting on their
BUTT---doing drugs while I worked.

Can you imagine how much money each state would save if people
had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?
I guess we could call the program "URINE OR YOU'RE OUT"!

Pass this along if you agree or simply delete if you don't. Hope you all will
pass it along, though.
Something has to change in this country - AND SOON!
P.S. Just a thought, all politicians should have to pass a urine test too!
Don't you just love the title of the program?

  1. I think this is a great idea! Maybe the cost of implementation will be made up by the savings of not paying the ones on drugs!
